Everyone struggles, including those society puts on a pedestal as having their life together: doctors, lawyers, models, actors, counselors, psychiatrists, professional athletes, and celebrities. The people you look up have the same daily struggles you do; one could argue they have more because people expect higher out of them.

The fitness industry is no different. People tend to think because I work in the fitness industry, I have my shit together. “Dee, you have a nice body. You’re healthy. You have your own business. You don’t have an asshole boss to deal with. You have a job that brings you joy. You have a beautiful, loving wife. You’re life is seemingly awesome.”

Yeah…I struggle too

I’ll be the first to admit that my shit is only together when it is. When life is balanced, it’s great. When it isn’t, life is chaos. Right now, life is chaos.

What happens when the life of a fitness expert is so chaotic that it trickles into work? When you don’t have the mental energy to lift the spirits of everyone else because it’s everything you can do to get out of bed in the morning? When you have the pressure of making your first Valentine’s day with your wife special, and you just want to crawl into a dark hole and hide?

People notice and start talking.

The news, gossip magazines, and social media are filled with this shit. We love making ourselves feel better by talking about the struggles of others. Somewhere we have forgotten that everyone is human, and everyone experiences the same emotions. Heaven forbid those we hold to higher expectations to entertain our lives show an ounce of human emotion.

I struggle with emotions just like everyone else. Get over it. If you think you are the only one who struggles with daily life, pull your head out of your ass and look around. We all bleed the same red blood, and everyone struggles.

  1. I love you for your good days and your bad. Strength and weakness, positive and negative. I love you for you and no one could ever possibly change that. You are the love of my life and I will forever be by your side. Thank you for sharing your story. Love always, your wifey.
